Our Story

Rooted here for more than 140 years.

Persia Baptist Church was established in the Persia community of Rogersville, Tennessee in 1883. Tucked into the foothills of the Appalachian mountain range in East Tennessee, our congregation has been a steady presence and a service to Hawkins County for over a century and a half.

Through the generations, the heart of this church has stayed the same — an ordinary family of believers gathering to worship together, grow as disciples, care for one another, and welcome new neighbors into the family of Christ. Whether you've worshiped here your whole life or you're visiting for the very first time, there's a seat for you.

Come as you are. You'll find a warm welcome waiting on Old Highway 66.

What We Believe

This we believe.

Persia Baptist Church holds to the historic Christian faith, in voluntary fellowship with the Holston Valley Association, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

The Bible is the written record of God's revelation of Himself to man — the divinely inspired, inerrant Word of God.

There is one God, who revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Man was created in God's image, innocent and with free will. Choosing his own way, man brought sin to the human race — and all need to be saved.

Salvation is provided by God through Jesus Christ, received by repentance and faith in Him.

The church is made up of believers who have confessed Christ and been baptized by immersion, with no authority except Christ its head.

We observe two symbolic ordinances: baptism and the Lord's Supper.

We believe in evangelizing the lost, with a missionary emphasis at home and around the world.

We believe in voluntary association with sister churches in our association, state, and national conventions.

We believe in Christian education, stewardship, Christian cooperation, and religious liberty.

We believe in the Second Coming of our Lord, in His own time.

The Plan of Salvation

A few simple truths from Scripture
God loves youHis love for the world made a way for everlasting life.John 3:16
All are sinnersNone is righteous; all have fallen short of God's glory.Romans 3:10, 23
The price of sinThe wages of sin is death — but God's gift is eternal life in Christ.Romans 6:23
God's redemptionConfess and believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved.Romans 5:8; 10:9–13

Parent/Guardian Permission Form

Please complete all sections and review with your child before submitting. One form per child, renewed annually.

At Persia Baptist Church, our desire in every ministry — Sunday classes, Wednesday programs, Vacation Bible School, and our bus ministry — is to provide a safe, joyful, and welcoming place where every child can learn, grow, and feel loved. We believe each child is a gift entrusted to us, and we count it a privilege to care for yours.

Our approach to behavior begins with grace. Most moments are met with a gentle word of encouragement and a caring reminder, and that is usually all that is needed. When something more is called for, we respond in steps — patiently, respectfully, and always with the child's dignity in mind.

We do this best in partnership with you. Please read through each section carefully and reach out to the church with any questions.

Section 1 — Permission to Ride the Church Bus
I give permission for my child to ride the Persia Baptist Church bus/van to and from church activities, including Sunday services, Wednesday programs, and special events. I understand transportation will be provided by church drivers and accompanied by adult chaperones.
Section 2 — Pickup & Drop-off
Sections 3 & 4 — Conduct Expectations

On the Bus

  • Stay seated and buckled (where belts are provided) while the bus is moving
  • Keep hands, feet, head, and objects inside the bus
  • Obey the driver and chaperones at all times
  • Use kind, respectful language — no profanity, teasing, or bullying
  • Keep the aisle clear; no pushing, horseplay, or throwing objects
  • Keep phones and devices put away (see Phone & Device Policy below)
  • Help keep the bus clean
  • Board and exit only at approved stops, and stay with the group

At Church

  • Stay with their assigned group and leader, and not leave the building or designated area without permission
  • Listen to and follow directions from teachers, leaders, and chaperones
  • Treat others with kindness and respect — no teasing, bullying, or rough play
  • Use respectful language and an indoor voice in classrooms and worship
  • Respect the church building, furnishings, equipment, and others' belongings
  • Use restrooms with a buddy or with leader awareness, per our child protection practices
  • Stay for the full program and leave only with a parent/guardian or authorized adult
  • Help clean up and treat God's house with care
Section 5 — Check-in / Check-out
Children are checked in upon arrival and may only be picked up or released to a parent/guardian or an adult listed on this form. Please be prompt for pickup at the close of each activity. If you need to pick up your child early, please notify a church leader upon arrival.
Section 6 — Behavioral Support
Our approach begins with grace. When a concern arises that cannot be resolved with a simple reminder, the following steps guide our response:
1
First Occurrence

The child will be asked to sit near the driver or a chaperone and will have a caring conversation about the behavior.

2
Second Occurrence

The child will again be asked to sit near the driver or a chaperone. A church leader will reach out to the child's guardians so that we can partner together in supporting the child.

3
Third Occurrence

The pastor and a deacon will meet with the child, and a church leader will contact the child's guardians to discuss next steps. In order to care for the safety and experience of all children, the child may need to step away from riding the church bus for a period of time at the discretion of church leadership.

Immediate safety: Because the bus is a moving vehicle, behavior that creates an immediate safety risk — such as fighting or interfering with the driver — may require us to stop safely and call a guardian for pickup right away.
Section 7 — Our Commitment to Safety
Persia Baptist Church is committed to your child's safety. Our drivers are licensed and our volunteers are screened in accordance with our child protection policy. We maintain a two-adult standard so that no child is ever alone with a single adult.
Section 8 — Emergency Medical Authorization
In the event of a medical emergency, if I cannot be reached at the numbers listed above, I authorize Persia Baptist Church staff to seek appropriate emergency medical care for my child.
Phone & Device Policy

Keeping Children Focused, Safe, and Engaged

To help children and youth stay focused, safe, and engaged during church activities, phones and personal electronic devices will be collected from children and youth when they arrive for church activities.

Phones and devices will be held by designated church leaders and returned at the end of the activity or when the child is released to a parent/guardian or authorized adult.

Children and youth should not use phones or devices during services, classes, bus ministry activities, Vacation Bible School, or other church programs unless a church leader gives permission.

If a child needs to contact a parent or guardian, a church leader will help them do so. If a parent or guardian needs to reach their child during an activity, they may contact the church or a designated ministry leader.

Section 9 — Photo & Media ReleasePlease make a selection below.
From time to time, Persia Baptist Church may take photographs, video, or audio recordings during services, classes, trips, and activities, and use them on the church website, social media, bulletins, newsletters, and printed materials.
